Dalmahoy Hotel & C.C.

Edinburgh

Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club is set on one thousand acres of beautiful parkland, on the west side of Edinburgh. The hotel has a fantastic location, where you can enjoy the best of both worlds - a country retreat and a city break rolled into one. From Dalmahoy it is only ten minutes to Edinburgh airport, and eighteen minutes to Edinburgh city centre, with its numerous restaurants, famous castle and The Royal Mile. The historic country hotel, built in 1725, offers a luxurious spa, leisure facilities and a range of dining options. The hotel has 215 rooms, set over three floors. There are two 18-hole golf courses, The Championship East Course and Resort West Course.

Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club offers a large selection of accommodation, across a variety of guest rooms and suites. There are five types of guest rooms to choose from, a classic double, twins, deluxe, family and the manor house rooms, where you can gaze out across the expansive estate grounds and golf courses. The hotel suites offer a wide range of accommodation including the junior Turret suites, the Morton suite, and now, a Presidential suite, after the visit of Jo Biden in November 2021. If it’s good enough for the President of the United States of America, it’s good enough for Scottish Golf Breaks.

Dalmahoy Hotel & Country Club offers a range of dining venues and numerous bars throughout the resort. The Pentland is the feature restaurant in the hotel, where the menus are a celebration of Scotland’s larder – including fresh produce from the kitchen garden at the resort. You will enjoy dinner and breakfast at the Pentland, with any of the packages we offer at Scottish Golf Breaks. A recommendation, from the Scottish Golf Breaks team, is to get yourself into the James Braid Bar, named after one of the early pioneers of the game, who was a prolific course designer. Where you can soak up Dalmahoy's history and treat yourself to a post-game drink or a Starbucks coffee, while chatting about how your round played out.

The country club facilities at the resort are exceptional. The hotel boasts an eighteen-metre swimming pool (indoor & heated), a sauna and a steam room. There are a number of beauty treatments on offer, to help unwind and de-stress. The active can enjoy a generous fitness centre which includes the latest cardio equipment, and which also offers fitness and yoga classes. The resort has two outdoor, floodlit tennis courts and there are plenty of walking, nature and bike trails within the generous grounds.

The Championship, East Course, was designed by James Braid to championship standards. Nicknamed “The Beast”, It is a formidable challenge and measures 7,334 yards in length from the tournament tees. However, for the mere mortals among us, it’s a more manageable 6,684 yards. Still no walkover for a parkland course. The course has hosted prestigious events such as the Solheim Cup, the Scottish PGA Championship and the Scottish Senior Open. The fairways are wide, and forgiving, but keep your eye out for some cannily placed bunkers. As with all Braid courses, the layout is sensible and there is never a far walk from the green to the next tee. The greens are large and receptive, meaning you should have a reasonable target to aim at, and, fingers crossed, your putting is up to scratch. A renovation in 2005 added a few new signature holes, which complement and enhance this fine parkland course; a course which will provide a stern test of your golfing ability.

The Resort, West Course, may be the shorter of the two courses at Dalmahoy, but due to its tight fairways and deep, thick rough it still provides a stiff challenge. The greens are smaller and certainly less receptive than those belonging to its bigger sibling. Therefor, accuracy from the tee, course management and strategic placement are required to achieve a good score. The West Course measures 5,168 yards from the White tees. It contains five par 3s, one par 5, and with the remaining par 4s varying in length and difficulty it provides an excellent mix of challenging holes.

Practice facilities at Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club are superb. These include a twelve-bay, floodlit driving range, a 9-hole pitch & putt course, to sharpen the short game, and numerous putting greens. In short, first-class facilities to get your game in order before playing a round on either course.
