Set in the heart of The Scottish Borders, near the town of Kelso, yet little more than an hour's drive from either Edinburgh or Newcastle, SCHLOSS Roxburghe Championship Golf Course is amongst the best inland courses in Scotland. Designed to make clever use of its wonderful location and various elevations, on free-draining land, the course has wide fairways and large, rolling USGA specification greens. With magnificent 5-star accommodation options, excellent practice facilities and fantastic hospitality on offer, SCHLOSS Roxburghe is an amazing venue for a golf holiday in Scotland.
History: The idea for a championship standard golf course to be located in The Scottish Borders was originally conceived by The Duke of Roxburghe, an avid golfer himself. Land on Roxburghe Estate was designated for the task and renowned golf course architect, and former Ryder Cup player, Dave Thomas was brought in to design the course. Opened in 1997, and subsequently sold to 12.18. Investment Management GmbH, in 2018, SCHLOSS Roxburghe Championship Golf Course may be a modern design, but it has already played host to the European Seniors Tour, “The Scottish Seniors Open”. It was also the venue for the European Tour Qualifying School, Stage 1, from 2011 to 2017, and has hosted a number of top amateur events.
SCHLOSS Roxburghe Championship Golf Course: Set in The Scottish Borders, this course will challenge the best while giving pleasure to all. The SCHLOSS Roxburghe's design bears Dave Thomas' hallmarks of well-positioned bunkers and large, rolling USGA specification greens. The course follows the land's natural contours, passing mature beech woods and encompassing dramatic water hazards. The landscape, the setting, the course design and its clever bunkering make this a must play venue. The SCHLOSS Roxburghe Championship Golf Course is an eighteen hole, par 72 for both men and women. It has tees ranging from 5,660 to 7,111 yards.
SGB Signature Hole: Name: 'The Viaduct', Hole 14. Measuring 475 yards (W) and 571 yards (M) from the tee, this wonderful par 5 is played along the banks of the Teviot River, whilst, in the distance, its green is framed by the Roxburgh (Teviot) Viaduct. A well struck drive from the elevated tee, aimed out left towards the fairway bunkers, opens up the hole for your second shot. For most golfers, a nicely hit second shot will then leave a mid to short iron, for the third into the well guarded green. Avoid the large greenside bunkers, situated front left and front right, take two putts and walk off delighted with a well earned par.
