Kingsbarns

Kingsbarns

Kingsbarns is one of Scotland’s premier golf courses. It is ranked in the world’s top 100 courses, and it has won numerous awards, most recently Best Customer Service at the Scottish Golf Awards. Golf has been played on the links land at Kingsbarns from as early as 1793. However, this recent modern masterpiece of a course opened in July 2000. It is situated just seven miles from St Andrews and runs along 1.8 miles of picturesque North Sea coastline.

Designed by renowned American, Kyle Phillips, whose portfolio includes Dundonald Links, Yas Links in Abu Dhabi, The Grove, in London, and Verdura, in Sicily, et al. The philosophy insists that each of the courses should be unique, utilise the natural features of the location and embrace its history. These ideals are clearly evident at Kingsbarns. It is truly an exceptional golf course, and is a must play for any Scottish Golf Break.

The course distance can range from 5,257 to 7,224 yards. With a variety of tee box positions the course is accessible and playable for golfers of all abilities. However, the Black tee boxes are only recommended for scratch golfers or better. This wonderful course has numerous breath-taking holes, particularly those that run parallel to the coastal waters. This is certainly the case for the 15th “Rocky Ness”. The hole's name gives some indication of what lies ahead. The tee box at this par 3 is hemmed in by trees to your left, meaning the tee shot must carry rocks and a stretch of beach to land on the green. At 151 yards in length from the Blue tees, it is not a monster. However, it has devoured many a loose tee shot over the years.

Kingsbarns is a co-host of The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which is played annually over the historic Old Course at St Andrews, the Championship Course at Carnoustie and Kingsbarns. The Championship incorporates two separate competitions – an individual professional tournament for the world’s leading golfers and a team competition, which features some of the world’s most celebrated amateur golfers, playing alongside the pros. There have been many celebrities who have joined in over the years. The participation of Bill Murray, Andriy Shevchenko, Tico Tores, Sir Steve Redgrave and Samuel L Jackson give an indication of the tournament's pedigree. If you ever find yourself on this modern links classic, be sure to have a good look as to who is hiding under those woolly bunnets, it might just be a celebrity getting a warm up round in before the big event.

The practice range at Kingsbarns is just a short walk from the 1st tee. There are premium complimentary balls available and a member of staff to offer support if required. This fantastic facility enables you to get your short and long game in order before playing a round on the course.
