Kilspindie Golf Club lies hidden amongst the nature reserve of Aberlady Bay, a few hundred yards from the quaint village of Aberlady in East Lothian. The club is situated on the Firth of Forth, approximately thirty minutes east of Edinburgh. This challenging, historic, and spectacular links course is at one with nature - Hares, Seals and a variety of birds may be spotted during a game - and the club is known locally, nationally and internationally for its welcome and friendliness. Kilspindie Golf Club hosts a traditional eighteen hole links course that has a fantastic reputation. The club offers quality practice facilities, which are open to members and visitors. The traditional links course at Kilspindie Golf Club is a must play venue on your golf break in Scotland.
History: When the club was originally formed, as 'Luffness Golf Club' in 1867, it was the thirty-fifth registered golf club in the world. However, after a schism surrounding a potential move closer to the village of Gullane the club split in two, with some members opting to play at 'Luffness New Golf Club', formed in 1894, while others, after a deal for links land was agreed with the Earl of Wemyss and March, stayed nearer to the village of Aberlady and laid out a course close to Craigielaw Farm. The new course opened in 1898 and a year later, in 1899, it was thought appropriate to rename the club, 'Kilspindie'. From its very beginnings, Kilspindie built a reputation as a warm and welcoming club, where many golf associations chose to play their annual outings over the links, and many still do so today. Two stone structures that can be viewed on a visit to the links are known as the 'Target' and the 'Magazine'. These were both actively used in the early days by the local rifle club and the Territorial Army, who utilised the grounds with the golf club.
Kilspindie Golf Club. Few changes have been made to this traditional Scottish links course in over a century, so golfers, irrespective of their standard of play, can enjoy the same challenges as so many have in the past. Originally designed by Willie Park Jnr. and Ben Sayers, the course is a magnet for hickory-shaft golf enthusiasts, and the club can even arrange to hire you a set should you wish to try it. Short by today's standards, this little gem of a links course is a highly enjoyable challenge, set within beautiful surroundings. The course at kilspindie Golf Club is an eighteen hole, par 69 (men), par 70 (women), track. It has tees ranging from 5,092 to 5,494 yards.
SGB Signature Hole: Name: Gosford Bay. Number: Hole 8. Measuring 147 yards (W) and 167 yards (M) from the tee, this spectacular par 3 is played over the beach towards a well guarded fortress of a green. Two pot bunkers stand sentry at its front, wooden sea defences and the beach protect its right flank, while heavy gorse awaits to the left. And, for the over hit tee shot, with little room to the rear, the beach lies in wait, once more. 'Gosford Bay' is a perilous yet picture perfect par 3, where bravery is required to keep your card intact.
