Powfoot Golf Club

Powfoot Golf Club is found in the small coastal village of Cummertrees, within the region of Dumfries and Galloway, in the south-west of Scotland. Set on the northern shore of the Solway Firth, Powfoot Golf Club lies twelve miles from Dumfries, the South of Scotland's largest town, and three miles from the town of Annan. Located in an area of breath-taking beauty, offering superb views and presented to the highest standard, the course is played over a mixture of links and parkland.  Known as a wonderful test of golf, with many holes following the shoreline of the Solway Firth, and others set amongst whins and heather, Powfoot has earned the tag, ‘one of golf’s best kept secrets’. Powfoot Golf Club offers visitors excellent practice facilities, a warm Scottish welcome in the clubhouse and is a fantastic venue to play at while enjoying a Scottish Golf Break. Golf Scotland. History: Powfoot Golf Club was founded in 1903. The course was originally laid out by Sandy Herd. It was subsequently redesigned by the legendary James Braid in 1923. Powfoot is a private members golf club and enjoys year round golf, due to its coastal location on the Solway Firth.

The course at Powfoot Golf Club: A tough and uncompromising layout, where accuracy is at a premium from the tee, and clever club & shot selection are required on approaches, the course at Powfoot Golf Club offers a challenging yet enjoyable experience. With fast running fairways, excellent green complexes of a generous size, gorse and heather giving the course protection and an often persistent wind coming off the firth, the course gives nothing away and a good score is hard earned. The opening nine holes present a stiff test of links golf as the course winds its way through an extensive sandy plain and affords magnificent views of the local hills, the Solway Firth and The Lake District beyond. While the back nine encompasses a mixture of links and parkland holes. The course at Powfoot Golf Club is an eighteen hole, par 71 (men), par 74 (women), track. It has tees ranging from 5,489 to 6,274 yards.

SGB Signature Hole: Name: Warren. Number: Hole 8. Measuring 360 yards (M) and 342 yards (W) this difficult par 4 represents what this course is all about. From the tee, an accurate shot is required to avoid the gorse whins and heather rough tightly framing the fairway on both the left and right hand sides. Trouble avoided, there is a high probability that the second shot will be played into the green from a sloping lie. A bunker to the front right protects the green, while gorse on both sides and to the rear of its sloping surface ensure finding its safety, while pleasurable, is not a comfortable experience. Once on the green, often two good putts are required to negotiate its tricky left to right slope. A tough hole that may make or break your day on the course.

Clubhouse & Practice facilities: Visiting golfers will enjoy a warm welcome in the clubhouse at Powfoot Golf Club. It is home to a comfortable lounge, and a dining room, where guests can enjoy a drink from the well stocked bar and a range of catering options,  before or after a round of golf.
